Designer Gasmasks

Designer Gasmasks

These designer gasmasks are insane! Designed by the multi-talented artist/designer Diddo Velema, they are, unfortunately not for sale. Instead they exist to make the statement that ‘We are at perpetual war with ourselves, which breeds perpetual fear. This causes an insatiable desire for consumption which we are afraid we may never satisfy.’ The masks are an attempt to acknowledge this fear and through acknowledgement we may breathe a little easier.

Internet Maps

Internet Map

These maps of the internet by Chris Harrison are mesmerising. In a time when communication is at it’s easiest and most convenient it’s easy to forget about the underlying infrastructure that connects us all. These visualisations provide a sense of scale to the faceless networks that surround us in modern life.

Fray

Fray

Fray is one of the web’s oldest and best creative writing e-zines. Evolving over the years from a website, to a series of live storytelling events and now to it’s present form, a quarterly magazine available in print and online. This time they’ve got a bunch of fantastic illustrators on board to provide some graphic content for the stories, including artists Drout750, Ray Frenden (who we also featured here) and many more…

Passage

Passage

Passage is a beautiful conceptual game created by Jason Rohrer. The game, which takes about five minutes to play, makes the player reflect on the passage of time and the passage of a lifetime. It’s a wonderful experience and a really creative use of video games as art.

Semapedia

Semapedia

Semapedia’s goal is ‘to connect the virtual and physical world by bringing the right information from the internet to the relevant place in physical space.’ This is an incredible idea, which in theory could provide you with information about where you are, wherever you are, whenever!

This is acheived by using mobile (cell) phone readable barcodes whcih then connect your phone to wikipedia and download the information. Whilst this is a great idea, what I think would be even cooler is if you were able to also get user recommendations for local bars, coffee houses restaurants etc.

Little People

Little People

Little People is an art project of miniature proportions. As the name suggests, little people are left in different spots around London to fend for themselves! The photos are great and if you want you can buy a print from the website.

Current TV

Current TV

I’ve just spent a lazy afternoon watching Current TV and I’ve got to say that I think it’s brilliant. The basic premise of Current TV is that it’s content is user generated. This gives a wide diversity of programming, most shows don’t run for much longer than 10 minutes, that’s basically perfect for my short attention span anyway. Don’t expect anything too polished, but do expect some interesting viewing. (As a side note I’d like to find out the ratio of user-generated:current tv generated content.)
