These maps of the internet by Chris Harrison are mesmerising. In a time when communication is at it’s easiest and most convenient it’s easy to forget about the underlying infrastructure that connects us all. These visualisations provide a sense of scale to the faceless networks that surround us in modern life.

These Ascii Art Curtains by Nienke Sybrandy are fantastic! The site’s all written in Dutch, so unfortunately I can’t comment on the thought process, but check it out anyway for other great design inspiration.

Kings of Power 4Billion% is Australian pixel artist wunderkind Paul Robertson’s latest pixel video release. Similar to the previously release Pirate Baby Cabana Battle, this animation shows thousands of brilliantly animated pixel characters fighting to the death in a myriad of macabre settings. You can see more of Paul’s work at the Mechafetus Visualblog or download the video here.

Complexification is the online playground of Jared Tarbell and features some great experiments using the Processing programming language. Shown above is the work ‘Substrate’, in which a series of lines are drawn intersected and filled, the end process sharing similarities to that of a patchwork countryside.

Something Planned has got some great experiments in typography going on. Shown above is the think beauty project which uses tape to create some elegant type on a chain link fence. I’m also digging the City/Natural Space and Dimensional Typography projects.

Popular electronics and appliance manufacturer LG has teamed up with inspirational fabric designers Designers Guild to produce these limited edition washing machines. The designs thmselves seem quite smart although perhaps more than a bit kitsch. I’m in two minds as to how well these designs will fare as the machine gets older, although with planned obsolescense in almost every appliance we buy these days, I’m not sure it’s something to worry about too much.

I really like this concept of organising the books on your shelves by colour. COLOURlovers have a great article on how to do this and the ups and downs of the system. Just remember the books cover and you’ll be able to find it easily on the shelf.

We recently wrote about Passage an experimental art game by Jason Rohrer. Well, he’s done it again, releasing Gravitation a new experiment in mania, melancholia, and the creative process. The game itself is beautiful, go play it now!
Update: The Escapist has a great interview/editorial with Jason Rohrer regarding the pursuit of perfection when designing games. Well worth the read. (via Kotaku)Â
